MarcelloC

Marcello Cordioli, Group CIO of Permasteelisa

Marcello Cordioli, Nuclear Engineer from the Politecnico of Milan, started his career with IBM in Milan and in Austin (TX). Key activity was the organization of the production lines and the technology transfer of the production of the Risc 6000.

Leaving IBM he entered the IT management leading the IT organization of Birra Moretti part of the Labatt Breweries of Canada supporting the company to double the market share in only six years. The main tasks have been the standardization of the ERP, the introduction of the CRM and the optimization of the production and transportation based on the commercial forecast. He then follow the double acquisition, first with Interbrew and then with Heineeken, making him an expert in managing M&A from the IT standpoint.

In 1998 he joined GlaxoWelcome Italy first as IT director of Italy and then as ERP director for Europe. Here he had the possibility to optimize the IT organization and process in a very complex Pharma site that has R&D production and Commercial operation. After the merger and the startup of GlaxoSmithkline he become the advocate in the group of the ERP integration. He participate to three waves of ERP implementation for the group: first he manage the European participation to the FDA compliant SAP implementation for manufacturing, then managed the SAP for the commercial operation in Europe and finally the SAP CRM implementation in Italy. The initiatives proved that ERP can bring major benefits to the organization and can be done without spending a fortune.

In 2007 Marcello joined Permasteelisa as Group CIO, where he had the task to move the organization from a disperse conglomerate of 40 companies world wide into a real multinational group. This implied the definition of standard processes in the different areas and to roll-out common systems around the world. Maintaining the cost under control, he manage to roll-out SAP in all organization and to move the vast majority of the applications into SAP in a standardized manner.

Marcello pioneered the Cloud applications moving in 2008 all mail and collaboration of the group into Google Apps that is now used also for other business applications. He is now deeply involved in the definition of the new set of design and engineering tools developed in collaboration with Autodesk. This project that is took two years to come out from R&D and now is starting the roll-out is going to impact the 3D design of the building in all the design unit world wide.

Marcello’s motto in this recent experience is “The power of One”: using the same system in all the organization has really made possible to change the processes and to introduce new functionalities at a faster pace and keeping all the process aligned. Marcello is married with a daughter of 20 and a boy of 11, that patiently support him.
