Fernando Lucero is Global CIO for Iberdrola, the world leader in Wind Power, one of the top electricity utilities and Spain’s number one energy group. IBERDROLA has undergone a wide-ranging transformation over the last ten years which has enabled it to advance through the ranks to become the number one Spanish energy group, one of the Spanish main companies on the Ibex 35 by market capitalisation, the world leader in wind energy, and one of the world’s top power companies.
Fernando Lucero earned a degree in Computer Science Engineering from Madrid’s Polytechnical University, holds an Executive Master Degree in Business Administration from IE Business School and Global Leadership Program from IMD Business School.
His professional career in Information Technology started in 1990 as IT project manager, at CERN – European Organization for Nuclear Research based on Geneva (Switzerland) and later in 1992 in the European Space Agency – ESA based on Darmstadt (Germany). In 1993 he joined Mapfre Asistencia, an travel insurance multinational company, operating in Europe, America, Asia, Australia and Africa, as IT Director. Later in 1997, he took the role as Director of Information Systems for the subsidiary company of Lafarge in Spain, a world leader in building materials. In 2007 he joined Isolux Corsan, global benchmark in the areas of concessions, energy, construction and industrial services in 38 countries, as CIO. From 2013 he is member of the Advisory Board of CIONET Spain and within he is leading the Innovation Group.
Fernando has significant experience in dealing business transformation and change management programs, an extensive background in modernization projects, leading technology processes focusing on the improvement of productivity, outsourcing and off-shoring IT strategies, IT alignment with business units and functional teams, multi-cultural and large global organizations, where technology can lever for the continuous efficiency improvement of business processes through innovation.
Born in Spain, he is married with three daughters. He likes travelling, running (he got the Six Star prize after run the 6 Abbot Marathon majors), windsurfing and skiing.
