Jürgen Renfer is Head of ICT at Kommunale Unfallversicherung Bayern (KUVB) and Bayerische Landesunfallkasse (Bay. LUK), both are parts of the german social insurance system which has been headquartered in Munich since they were founded in 1892.
Before joining KUVB he started his career in the department for information technologies of the German pension insurance in 1985. There he worked in different roles as system analyst, head of system management and as project manager. He was essential envolved by implementing merging the program systems and data centers of the nationwide pension isurance departments with about 40.000 users.
In 2001 he joined the KUVB as Head of ICT. Together with his team he launched different sectorinitiatives, e.g. a CoBIT-based architecture model for nationwide IT-strategy and interoperability.
Inhouse he is responsible for the information and communication strategy and services. Therefore he tries to balance the IT-challenges between “big I and little t”.
Jürgen Renfer holds a Degree in public management form the University of applied sciences for Public Administration Rhineland-Palatinate and a Master Degree in public administration from the University of Kassel. He lectured at different public and non-public universities, is dedicated in further education systems as examiner and known as speaker at conferences as well as publisher in sector journals. From 2008 until 2012 he got continuously german CIO awards.
In his activity as member of the german advisory board he publishes public sector themes in the CIONET magazine and launched the initiative “play IT fair” as response to the Heartbleed-shock in 2014.
